The purpose of this group is to benefit you: a young person working in or around our nation’s capital in the broad, ill-defined world of communications. What does that mean? You might work at a public relations agency or marketing firm, you may do in-house communications at a company or association, or spin your congressman’s latest foibles as his press secretary. Whatever the case, we probably have some things about our jobs in common and a bunch of stuff that’s different. We believe we can learn a thing or two from each other and help ourselves gain new perspectives on our profession and advance our careers. And of course, have a few beers and laughs while doing so.
Young MC was created by a couple guys, who were tired of hearing about all the happy hours their friends in the real estate industry were constantly having. We realized we had no such way to connect with other people in our line of work in a personal, engaging manner. Sure, there’s PRSA, Bulldog Reporter and others, and those are all great organizations. But we’re not here to tell you about this hot new thing called Web 2.0 or the 5 best ways to train your executive for broadcast interviews. We’re here to provide a forum for you to meet real live people with a similar job and to see what you may have in common. We’re all on Facebook and LinkedIn and list serves and blogs related to our industries, but we want to actually meet people, chat and build meaningful relationships.
Talk about job openings, bitch about your boss or your salary, trade horror stories about crazy clients, meet new friends, drink: have fun. At the end of the day, we want Young MC to benefit you—your involvement and understanding of the industry, your career potential and your social calendar. Maybe you’ll pick something up to help a client or meet someone with a new business opportunity, and that’ll be great. But ultimately, we want you to have a good time and learn a little bit about the communications world outside the confines of your own office.
Young MC – kickin’ it old school.

tay123′s “They Said It” pieces are priceless. Proves once again that life is stranger than fiction. Thanks for sharing.

I just shared a few of the “They Said It” pieces with an entire waiting-area of a small Indian airport, luckily most knew enough English to at least giggle.
